Yes ! 8 months later Ya.com managed to make my line work, but they had to reduce the bandwith to 6 Mg Max instead of the initial 20 Mg. Did they reduce my monthly charge accordingly? Of course not!

Many other ISP have the same issues. So it seems real access to ADSL 2+ technology with bandwith up to 50 Mg won't be a reality for some time in Spain and so the services associated with it like Tv on demand. Sad...

After four month I finally received a new router from ya.com! Not bad, huh?! I did configure it, downloaded the upgrade etc...But my bandwith is a disaster (less than 1 mg when I am paying for 20mg). After another 2 phone calls ( thats about 50 in total), Ya.com realised there might be something else ! They promised me they will find out and solve the problem rapidly... :-) I think less than one month to solve that new problem is still optimistic. Bets are open!

Another month but this time I am waiting for the new router promised by Ya.com. After having to test the line myself and my old router with another line (thanks Sergio!) Ya.com came to the conclusion that my router was also at fault and that the had to send me a new one. "We are so sorry sir about the inconvenience caused, but don't worry within 4 days you should receive a new router", over a month and 7 phone calls later a least: still nothing. But I am still hoping and paying... My last call was hopefull. At least this time they had a trace of the problem and the demand for the new hardware had been accepted. No more than a few days they said...We will see !

Over a month without a service back to normal. Thanks to Ya.com... I am still waiting for a new router delivery (it's been over 10 days) not bad !

By the way, I crashed both my external hard disk (with my backups) and my local hard drive. that means that I have lost, well...everything. Don't do the same mistake and do a regular backup on cd or dvd!

20 days without my Adsl service! Another 2 days and with Ya.com we will manage to beat our own earlier record. Thanks to one of my neighbours and to the wi-fi technology I still manage to receive my e-mails but the bandwith available to me is very small and capricious. That explains my absence of postings in the last 3 weeks.

I am furious at ya.com as you can imagine, but mainly because their idea of a "service" is close to ZERO. The staff you talk to on the phone (daily) seems unexperienced and unconcerned, is always unable to help but not even sorry for your troubles. They have to deal with unadequate procedures and unreliable sofwares (it took once up to 7 minutes just to bring up my incidents records on their screen, and 3 times were unable to find it and I had to call back! And If you open more than one incident on their system their are totally lost, and none of your problems will be resolved). As with most helpdesk huge platforms you cannot talk to "someone in charge". You just have to wait, wait and wait...

When great marketing efforts are not relayed by a good quality service customers feel that they have been duped. That's exactly how I feel as a Ya.com customer. Their offer of a 20 Mg Adsl+ free calls at below 30 € was great in principle but does not work for me in practise. Another 5 days without connection at all, along with a useless helpdesk that is not even capable of finding a trace of my numerous phone calls to signal my problems is simply an unacceptable situation. In about 1 year my service was interrupted at least 5 times between 2 and 22 days! I will move for another ISP asap! Tell me if you are happy with the one you have, and I'll join...

Try internetcalls for your land line calls, It's free and it works! As mentioned in my previous post I am testing various Voip services. Internetcalls.com works. I have actually credited my account with 10 Euros to be able to call mobile phones and benefit from unrestricted free land line calls. It's simply great...I can call France, Australia, The U.K etc...absolutly free ! To credit my account using Paypal took me 2 minutes at most. I also applied for a free number so people can call me with their regular line wherever I am for the price of a local call, that was done instantly.

I started using voip softwares a long time ago now. First on Msn via messenger, then on Skype and I have tested, since, a few others. Here are my latest thoughts:

1- Sell any telecom shares you may still hold especially France Telecom and Telefonica who rely (still) too much on their hard line customers. Mobiles phone rates are still a real scandal all over europe, but that should not last too long...
2- Voice over I.P works great. For the time being Skype is (still) for Le Blog Test the winner as far as reliability is concerned. Pc to Pc calls work great and skype out calls are now very good. Pricing, for these calls are ok. Video reduces dramatically the quality of the calls.
3-New comers are working hard to get their share of the market, and skype needs to be worried.
4-I have tested VOIP buster. Reliability for Pc to Pc calls is good but no so great for land line calls. Yet, some destinations are totally free for these calls. Buying credits is sometimes impossible. They are still running on a beta version. No video.
5-I am testing internetcalls.com. So far so good...45 destinations for land line calls are totally free (1 min only if you have no credit). It seems by far the best deal as far as pricing is concerned, but needs to be further tested which I encourage you to do by downloading their Beta version available here. No video. It looks so much like voip buster that I suspect they are, in fact, one company.
6-I am also testing Windows live messenger (Messenger 8.0 Beta). Is there anything really new ? Hum...Very popular with kids. Connections for video and voice calls pc to pc are still not always successfull. BOF...

COTONOU - Les sacrifices vaudou de poulets vivants risquent de transmettre le virus de la grippe aviaire aux prêtres de ce culte animiste largement répandu au Bénin.

La présence du virus H5N1 est attestée depuis la semaine dernière au Nigeria. Au Bénin voisin, où est né ce culte, les autorités ont mis en garde les prêtres vaudou.

"Nous avons identifié les groupes à risque, y compris les féticheurs et les adeptes du culte vaudou qui parfois tuent les animaux avec les dents", annonce Guillaume Hounsou-vé, chargé de l'élevage au ministère de l'Agriculture, dans un entretien accordé à Reuters.

Des moutons, des chèvres et d'autres animaux sont parfois utilisés dans les cérémonies vaudou mais ce sont les poulets qui sont le plus souvent offerts en sacrifice aux dieux. Et les prêtres du rite les décapitent avec un couteau ou avec les dents. Dans les deux cas, ils s'exposent au sang des poulets, l'un des moyens de contamination des êtres humains par les oiseaux malades.

Depuis sa réapparition fin 2003, la forme humaine de la grippe aviaire a fait quelque 90 morts en Asie.

Ces derniers jours, Hounsou-vé et d'autres fonctionnaires béninois ont mis au point un plan d'action pour prévenir la maladie. "Nous ferons des messages ciblés et surtout dans les régions où il y a des 'couvents'", dit-il en allusion aux lieux sacrés utilisés pour les rites vaudou.

On estime que 60% des 7 millions de Béninois pratiquent le vaudou.

le 14-12-2005: Une américaine vient de perdre en dernière instance son procès contre l'industrie du disque et doit verser 22500 $ pour avoir téléchargé 30 chansons.Elle utilisait Kazaa, une bourse d'échange de morceaux de musique. Au cours de son précédent procès, elle avait été condamnée à 3500 $ d'amende et elle a préféré faire appel. Elle avait utilisé un argument désormais classique : elle voulait écouter les morceaux avant d'acheter les CD originaux... Source : www.spiegel.de

Problemas de lineas Adsl en Barcelona

Hace unos dias, tengo problemas de línea Adsl. Mis amigos también. La mayoria son clientes de Ya.com pero algunos clientes de wanadoo tiendrían problemas también. Si tienes faltas de conexión, de velocidad gracias de fijar un mensaje. Solamente Telefónica sería inmune a esta clase de avarias. ¿Extraño, non ?

Certains ont remarqué que j'avais, depuis peu, ajouté une rubrique "La French Boutique" à laquelle vous pouvez désormais accéder par le menu. Ce sont quelques liens que je vous recommande. Pour exemple, je viens de réserver un billet aller-retour Barcelone Paris fin mars. La plupart d'entre vous se seraient jetés sur vueling.com pensant trouver le billet le moins cher. Je suis passé par Promovols (dont vous trouvez un lien sur mon site) et j'ai pu reserver un billet sur Air France 25 Euros tout compris moins cher que Vueling. J'ai poussé le vice à comparer toutes les offres de ce low cost avec mon cher Promovols sur des dates proches avec une grande fléxibilité sur les horaires, rien n'a pu battre l'offre. Essayez!

Depuis des mois (même des années dans le cas anglais) je ne cesse de répéter à qui veut bien l'entendre que l'immobilier est trop cher et les taux d'intérêt trop bas. Après les differentes banques centrales (FED, BCE, et autres organismes régionaux dont la banque centrale espagnole) c'est au tour de la BRI (Banque des Réglements Internationaux) de s'inquiéter de la situation actuelle. Avant de vous lancer dans l'achat de votre appartement ou de quelqu'autre investissement immobilier lisez cet article clair et l'interview d'un des hauts responsables de la BRI. Si vous ne changez pas d'avis, on se reparle dans quelques temps, mais ne comptez pas sur moi pour pleurer sur votre sort. Il y a une bulle, c'est écrit dans la marbre.C'est le timing de son éclatement qui est moins clair même si, avec les hausses de taux, on s'en rapproche de plus en plus.

Due to technical problems at ya.com which is hosting generously part of this blog archives, you won't be able to download some of the videos le blog test has chosen for you...Sad :-(

After the hacking attempt I had yesterday ( strange for a site that has only around 40 to 50 visits a day) this is another setback for the blog, but I hope everything will be back to normal soon.

Let's just hope the good blog angels keep an eye on us.

Virus experts are warning that a destructive worm posing as a pornographic e-mail may already have infected hundreds of thousands of computers and could erase many everyday files on Feb. 3, at midnight. This, for once, is not a joke or just a rumor.
If you already have a good antivirus then you should be ok, if not you should go for a real good one.
